People happen to end up bonded in many ways. Surfing through the entire Singapore airport for a plug to charge my phone, I end up next to an Australian couple on their way home from their European holiday. They visited Lithunia, her father’s hometown to meet relatives she’d never met before. During WWII her father and uncle were taken to Buchenwald. She and her husband now visited the camp where her father had been held. Many stories from relatives that her dad never shared. She tells me how happy she is that her 19-old daughter was with them too to […]
When going on a long trip, I like to hydrate my skin at the airport. The one time one can use the best and most expensive facial creams☺ I go up to one of the assistants and ask for her help. I’ll be on the move for the next day and a half, what would she advise to use. She opens a cream, 530EUR/pc. It’s really good! We start chatting and I ask her how she loves her job. Turns out she is only here for a short time to gather some money for her studies. She studies English linguistics, […]
“When things are shaky and nothing is working, we might realize that we are on the verge of something. We might realize that this is a very vulnerable and tender place, and that tenderness can go either way. To Eastern peoples this demeanor seems cold, unfriendly. Rather let your manner be sympathetic. Let it be seen that you are filled with universal love. When you meet a Persian or any other stranger, speak to him as to a friend; if he seems to be lonely try to help him, give him of your willing service; if he be sad console him, if poor succor […]
“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
“The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves—say rather, loved in spite of ourselves.” – Victor Hugo
“Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love.” – Claude Monet
