For thousands of high school students this is the big day! Budapest is full of 18-year olds, dressed elegantly to say farewell to their old schools.  When it comes to “ballagás”, it is a very important day for the whole family. Parents, grandparents, cousins all come to this big event, bringing beautiful bouquets as a gift. The graduating students walk around their school with their classmates, singing and saying farewell to their classrooms. This beautiful and emotional event is the first big step towards the future. It is The Moment of maturity, followed by their final exams at high school […]

Magda has been an optometrist for 22 years and has been running her own shop, Nador Optika in downtown Budapest, for 8 years. When I ask her about how it all began, she smiles: “It is an interesting story,” she says. “It all started with the fact that I don’t speak Romanian.” She tells me she is from Transylvania (the region of Romania that used to belong to Hungary prior to World War II) and as she couldn’t speak Romanian, there was no way for her to fulfil her dream to become a doctor. Her brother who lived in Germany […]

“Twinkle lights are the perfect metaphor for joy. Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments – often ordinary moments.Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we’re too busy chasing down extraordinary moments. Other times we’re so afraid of the dark that we don’t dare let ourselves enjoy the light. A joyful life is not a floodlight of joy. That would eventually become unbearable. I believe a joyful life is made up of joyful moments gracefully strung together by trust, gratitude, inspiration, and faith.” – Brene Brown

The “lángos” business is a serious Hungarian business! Deep-fried bread dough that you can spread with sour cream and grated cheese, with a hint of garlic – my favourite☺️ – but it comes in many versions of your like. If you visit a market in Budapest, you should not miss it. Just come hungry and prepare your tummy!

Stepping on Margaret island you escape the buzzing city. On a sunny day like this, chilling by the island’s water fountain (close resemblance to Dubai’s Burj fountain :), enjoying music and sunshine, watching giggling children’s groups, is the best that life can be.

Budapest is one of the most walkable European capitals. In summer, the bridges connecting Buda and Pest are filled with people. And especially Liberty bridge where youngsters spend their evenings, sitting on the bridge, chatting, having a drink, and enjoying the beautiful views.
