A gesture of kindness

On my commute home today a lady in her late 50s was sitting opposite me on the bus. She seemed tired, I had a crazy day. Nothing unusual. A huge thunderstorm swept over Budapest this afternoon. People around us all seemed indifferent, just couldn’t wait to get home.
Something deep inside me wanted to really reach out to this lady. I kept looking for eye contact with her. Then suddenly I opened my lips to speak:
“Excuse me. May I say something?”
She looked at me surprised not knowing what to expect.
“This blouse suits you so much!” I smiled.
She looked at me even more surprised.
“Oh, my! Thank you so much! This really warms my heart!” she said.
“I know,” I smiled. “That’s why I said it. It’s a really cheerful, colorful top.”
She was just looking at me, really touched.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to me before,” she said. She was so surprised, still couldn’t believe her ears.
How much/how little it takes us to show a little gesture of kindness towards each other, I wondered. And what a wonderful gift I got again!
Ma este hazafele jovet, egy az 50es evei vegen jaro holgy ult velem szemben a buszon. Faradtnak tunt, nekem pedig nehez napom volt. Csak a mindennapos dolog. Delutan hatalmas felhoszakadas soport vegig Budapest felett.
Aztan szolasra nyitottam a szam:
“Elnezest. Mondhatok valamit?”
Meglepve nezett ram, nem tudtam, mit varjon.
“Annyira jol all Onnek ez a bluz!” mosolyogtam
Meg jobban meglepodott.
“Jaj, koszonom szepen! Annyira jol esik!” mondta.
