An open heart

The following story about giving and receiving with an open heart was shared with me by a dear friend and I am happy to re-share it. There is so much we can learn from each other and from one another’s lives every day:

“I was sitting in the park with my shattered heart. I didn’t know the answers, the path ahead. Clouded by my tears I was sitting alone on a bench when I felt that someone just passed by me but I didn’t really take notice. A minute later a gentleman came up to me:

‘Excuse me for disturbing you. I can see that you are very sad.’

I looked up and saw a kind and gentle face.

‘He says: “Let the broken-hearted come to Me and I will heal them.”‘

It took me some time to register his presence and to understand the message he was trying to convey to me.

‘Believe me I know what it means. I had a near death experience and yet, I am here,’ he said. ‘I just want to ask you not to make final decisions now.’

His kindness and loving presence was so soothing to my heart and I began to feel a bit calmer.

‘You know I usually feel it is not by accident when I meet people who need someone to be there for them in their moments of sadness. I also know it is not by accident that you just passed by me here in the park. Thank you very much!’ I sobbed.

This man was so calm and gentle. He slowly walked away and I wondered about the miracles of life, the gifts that God bestows on us, fragile humans when we really need them.”

Wait until your mud settles »
