Wayang

Once the wayang is carved, the craftsman starts to paint the puppet. The basic color is yellow, then they apply gold (the yellow makes gold brighter). Gold symbolizes glory and dignity.

Wayangs used to be colored with natural paint, now mostly artificial colors are used.

The painting process takes about 5 days to a week. Altogether to create a puppet from scretch takes about two weeks.
